Inside Alcatraz Prison / San Fran pt. 6

Inside Alcatraz Prison

These are some of the photos I took inside the prison building. Alcatraz is a pretty big island, and it’s so full of history. Some parts are closed to the public though, which makes sense as the buildings are really old and probably not safe for exploration.

Once you walk into the prison building itself, you are given a set of headphones and a recording that tells you all about the history and where to go inside the prison (library, cafeteria, …). I’m normally used to either tour guides or exploring things on my own, so this was my first audio tour, but I really enjoyed it. You get all the information you need, but can take as much time as you want. I frequently pressed that pause button and Rok and I would discuss things and observe the place.

All the cells were really small, they looked very uncomfortable and some areas of the prison were very dark. My favourite places were the library and the cafeteria. They had the most soul, if that makes sense.
